Big Small Wonders: Street Parade

Big Small Wonders is a family-friendly spectacle that will bring nature and joy to the streets of Ilford.
Enter a world where the things you know have changed. Small things now seem giant, the order of city life has been overtaken by nature, where we as humans feel more aware of our surroundings.
Taravanya, ‘Star of the Wild’ will emerge from Valentines Park, in search of new connections. Her environment is inspired by land and sea, with giant scallop shells and ink-marbled flora and fauna flooding the streets. The parade comes to life with sounds from vibrant samba drums and rediscovered objects.
Contains: loud music, smoke effects, opportunities to join in
Who is this for?
This year’s Streets of Colour Parade theme is Big Small Wonders. It’s a joyful, fun, family-friendly parade that’s accessible for all. It’s an event that welcomes everyone – young, old, on foot or wheels! Join us for this celebration where nature, creativity and community come together. This parade is all about celebrating the little wonders of nature, reimagined in a big, bold, beautiful way.
What is the format of the parade?
There will be two parades during the day – a ‘relaxed’ parade taking greater influence from the sea, and a louder version, inspired by life in the jungle, accompanied by a percussion band using recycled instruments.
- Relaxed Performance, 11:30AM – 12:30PM (Boating Lake, Valentines Park)
- Full Parade, 2:30PM – 4:00PM (Melbourne Fields, Valentines Park to Ilford High Road)
The Relaxed Parade features minimal music, and no smoke effects for people who prefer a quieter experience.
The Full Parade features loud music and smoke effects.
What do our Community Producers say?
Our Community Producers have described the event as ‘Engaging, thought provoking and unlike any other parade seen before with lots of colour, music, spectacular sights and some surprises!’.
