Take part in Colours of Redbridge free Tie-Dye workshop!

This will be part of our annual Streets of Colour Parade, an even bigger celebration of colour and community this year.

This free workshop is an opportunity for you to learn the art of Tie Dye – over 90 minutes participants will be introduced to this fun colourful art, look at samples and tying patterns and then upcycle a t-shirt, top or garment of your own.

Then on Saturday 27th June – we would love you join us with your completed tie dye outfit to join us to parade with other community groups and schools across Redbridge who make up our wonderful community. More details are below.

What will I get out of it?

Learn a new creative skill and take home a one-of-a-kind tie-dyed piece that you made yourself! You’ll also get the chance to meet other local residents and be part of something bigger – once you’ve created your design, you’re invited to wear it at our Treasures of Tide accessible street parade on Saturday 27th June 2026.

What is the Treasures of Tide Parade?

Treasures of Tide is Colours of Redbridge’s free, annual, disability-led street parade taking place on Saturday 27th June 2026. This year’s parade celebrates our connection to the world through the vast oceans that link us all, honouring the stories of how we came to call Redbridge home – whether those journeys were across oceans or passed down through generations.

A giant sea turtle will swim through the streets, accompanied by schools of fish made from beautiful silk batiks and bottles gathering messages from the local community. Silk waves will tell the stories of how people came to settle here in Redbridge, alongside giant fabric shell sculptures, samba drumming and smoke effects.

The parade is led by a Steering Group who support people facing barriers to accessing arts and culture, such as older people and people with disabilities. It is free to attend and open to the whole community!

When and where are the workshops?

All workshops are 90 minutes long and being held at different locations on different dates:

  • Wednesday 3rd June at Fullwell Cross Library.
    • Morning session: 10:00 – 11:30 am
    • Afternoon session: 12:00 – 13:30 pm
  • Tuesday 9th June at Redbridge Central Library.
    • Morning session: 10:00 – 11:30 am
    • Afternoon session: 12:00 – 13:30 pm
  • Thursday 11th June at Marjorie Collins Centre.
    • Morning session: 10:00 – 11:30 am
    • Afternoon session: 12:00 – 13:30 pm (FULL)

What do I need?

Just bring a garment you’d like to tie-dye – a t-shirt works well, but any item of clothing made from a natural fabric such as cotton or linen will do. We’d recommend choosing something light-coloured (white or pale tones give the best results!) and something you don’t mind getting a little messy.

Everything else will be provided on the day!
