On April 23 2026, Colours of Redbridge hosted an inspiring careers event and community producer network session, bringing together local services and training providers – Redbridge Institute, Community Action Redbridge, Department for Work and Pensions, University of East London and Work Redbridge, and twenty-eight community members – Community Champions and Community Producers, exploring exciting and fresh new opportunities within the borough while welcoming new Community Producers into the programme.
Discovering Opportunities
Many Community Champions attended the event to learn more about local job opportunities, especially in the voluntary sector and how these could lead to paid work.
Attendees said the event helped them understand more about education, training, and career options in Redbridge. They also learned how different organisations work together to support the community.
Meeting local services face-to-face was very helpful. Attendees gained practical advice, discovered new training pathways, and learned about local community hubs ready to support them. By the end, many said they felt more confident, better informed, and clearer about their next steps.
What It Means to Be a Community Producer
As new Community Producers begin their journey, there is a strong sense of excitement and purpose. Many shared that they are most looking forward to:
“… bringing people together and creating a strong community.”
“… help turn people’s ideas into reality and make sure the community’s voice is heard.”
“… supporting programmes, working with local residents, and gaining new skills.”
This collective enthusiasm shows just how deeply committed they are to collaboration, creativity, and positive change across the borough. It’s the kind of energy that strengthens a programme and inspires everyone involved.
Learning from Those Who’ve Done It Before
Meeting experienced Community Producers was an important part of the event. It helped new participants feel more confident:
“It was inspiring to see how much confidence they gained.”
“It made me feel more confident and motivated to get started.”
“It was great to hear about their achievements.”
For many, this experience reinforced the belief that—with the right support—anyone can create meaningful change in their community.
Moments of Inspiration
Throughout the Community Producer Social, there were plenty of inspiring moments. Participants highlighted:
“The team leaders were very inspiring.”
“Everyone was friendly and welcoming.”
“It was amazing to see people grow their ideas into big events.”
“The strong bond between everyone was inspiring.”
These moments not only inspired attendees but also boosted confidence and motivation to get involved.
Staying Connected
As participants move forward, many are eager to stay engaged and build stronger relationships within their community. Plans include:
“Visit more events and meet new people.”
“Support events and work with others.”
“Help create projects led by the community.”
“Listen to people and build relationships.”
Moving Forward
The event was very useful and gave people confidence about their future. It showed that with the right support, training, and opportunities, people can achieve their goals.
There were also suggestions for improvement, such as more support for people with health conditions or disabilities, and more flexible job opportunities.
Final Thoughts
The event ultimately became a powerful moment of connection and momentum. It brought people together, strengthened confidence, and sparked the motivation many needed to take their next step forward. That sense of shared purpose – grounded in community, opportunity, and possibility – is what will carry this work even further.
